History
History
At Warren Farm School our aim is to provide a history education that inspires children to enquire about the past by asking questions, thinking critically, weighing evidence and developing their own perspectives and judgements.
Early Years
In the Early Years the children learn about past and present events in their lives and the lives of others. They talk about family customs, traditions and special occasions. They will also use the language of time and understand the changing of seasons.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, children will develop an awareness of the past and learn to use vocabulary relating to the passing of time. They will identify the similarities and differences between different periods and understand some ways in which we can find out about the past.
The children will learn about:
- Changes in living memory which differ from today.
- Significant events beyond children’s living memory that have impacted on today’s modern world.
- The lives of significant individuals in the past (who have contributed towards national or global achievements).
Key Stage 2
The children in Key Stage 2 will learn to develop an understanding of different periods within History. Children will recognise changes and connections over time whilst developing the appropriate use of historical terms.
Children will learn about:
- Changes in Britain over time.
- The achievements of the earliest civilizations.
- Ancient Greece and their influence on the western world.
- A non-European society that provides contrasts with British history.
