Physical Education
Physical Education
At Warren Farm Primary School our aim is to develop physically literate children to ensure they are prepared to perform a range of physical activities, as well as competitive sport. We endeavour to grow children’s knowledge of movement, so they are confident, competent and safe when participating in physical activity.
Early Years
In the Early Years a big emphasis is placed on Physical Development including fine and gross motor movements. The children have to develop their control and move safely in a range of ways. This also includes the use of equipment whether it be riding a bike or using a pencil. This area incorporates the importance of physical exercise, healthy eating and personal hygiene, as well as taking about ways to keep safe and healthy.
Key Stage 1
Children will:
- Explore and develop essential movement skills, ensuring progression is made through imitation, repetition and the performance of these objectives using control and coordination.
- Learn to adjust and adapt skills to link them to different activities utilising basic understanding of tactics.
- Learn the importance of exercising safely and begin to discuss the ways to maintain a healthy and safe lifestyle.
Key Stage 2
Children will:
- Apply learnt skills accurately alongside selecting the most appropriate techniques.
- Learn to use critical evaluation to ensure that sequences of skills are performed with control and precision.
- Learn to explain the necessary safety rules which are vital in preparing for physical exercise.
- Recognise the physiological effects of exercise and its significance in leading a healthy and prosperous life.
