Science

Science

At Warren Farm Primary School, we recognise the importance of teaching Science as being part of everyday life. Children are exposed to a wide variety of topics which are designed to both promote and enhance their curiosity of learning. As one of the core subjects, our curriculum aims to broaden the children’s understanding and scientific view of the world, whilst encouraging them to explore new things and complete practical experiments too.

Early Years

In the Early Years Science is all about experiencing and discovering new things. Looking at how things happen and work and trying to prove or explain their findings. We encourage the children to ask questions, draw on their everyday experiences to answer questions and comment on what they think has happened or is going to happen.

KS1

The KS1 curriculum allows pupils to:

The main focus of science teaching in key stage 1 is to:

  • Enable pupils to experience and observe phenomena, looking more closely at the natural and humanly-constructed world around them.
  • Encourage them to be curious and ask questions about what they notice.
  • Helped them to develop their understanding of scientific ideas.
  • Introduce and encourage them to begin using simple scientific language to talk about what they have found out and communicate their ideas to a range of audiences in a variety of ways.

KS2

The KS2 curriculum allows pupils to:

  • Broaden their scientific view of the world around them.
  • Explore, test and develop ideas about everyday phenomena.
  • Ask questions about what they observe and make decisions about which types of scientific enquiry are best to answer them.
  • Carry out simple comparative and fair tests.
  • Use scientific language to talk and write about what they have found out.
  • Draw conclusions based on their data and observations.
  • Read, spell and pronounce scientific vocabulary correctly.
